Camp Coordinator: Rev Chung Yan Lam
Camp leaders: Julie Newlands, Carolyn Newlands, Rev. Tom Hubschmid (St Thomas the Apostle), Natasha Oliarnyk (all will be trained with Standard First Aid training; among our leaders we have experience in water safety, mental health first aid, ASIST, and camp leadership)
Activities: Everyone will help with cooking, setting up, and cleaning up at meal times. We will play group games as well as spend time outdoors to connect with Creation. Our hope is that before our young people are headed back to the final month of school with projects and exams, they would have a "breather" of a weekend, where they could find support among friends and to leave some of the stresses behind.
We will introduce spiritual practices that will help youth to think of prayer as a way to manage anxieties, or that taking a walk in nature is just as worshipful as being in church singing hymns. If weather permits, they may learn a camp song or two around a campfire and maybe dip their feet into the water to remember their baptisms.
Most importantly, we wanted to have a space where our youth could simply be together, have fun, build community, and know that they are welcomed and celebrated just as they are. It is a mission of our Parish to continue fostering a broadness of love for our younger generation in our spiritual family.
WHAT'S NEXT:
Information session in April (exact date to be announced). It will let everyone know of the boundaries and expected behaviours during the camp, and parents and campers alike can discuss these as a group together with the leaders.
Between now and April, if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the team here.
Register soon! We are looking forward to having the youth with us at camp!
